Sunset Aperitif Boat Tour on Lake Como

Golden hour from the best seat on the lake: a private boat, a bottle of prosecco on ice, and Bellagio turning pink across the water.

From €240 per groupProsecco included1.5–3 hours at golden hourApril–October

Ask anyone who lives here when the lake is at its best and they will not say midday. They will say the last ninety minutes of light, when the water flattens, the villages turn gold and the whole of Lake Como seems to exhale. The sunset aperitif tour exists to put you in the middle of exactly that.

What the tour is

A private boat and skipper for the golden window: you board roughly 90 minutes before sunset, cruise slowly through the best-lit shoreline of the day, and drop anchor — or drift — at the viewpoint your skipper judges perfect for that evening's light. Out comes the chilled prosecco, the aperitivo snacks, and whatever playlist you connect to the speaker. It is unhurried by design: this is the anti-sightseeing tour, the one where the lake itself is the show. Couples book it for anniversaries; groups of friends book it as the best-value luxury on the lake; more than a few guests have used it to propose.

What is included

  • Private skipper who knows where the light falls, and when
  • A bottle of prosecco per couple (more on larger boats) plus water and soft drinks
  • Aperitivo board: olives, crisps, grissini, local cheese on longer tours
  • Blankets for the return run — evenings on the water cool quickly, even in August
  • Flexible timing: departure shifts with the actual sunset time of your date

The best departure points for sunset

West-facing piers win golden hour. Menaggio is the connoisseur's choice: the sun drops behind your own shore while Bellagio and Varenna glow directly opposite. Tremezzo and Lenno give you the Balbianello promontory silhouetted against the afterglow, and the Comacina channel goes mirror-calm most evenings. Bellagio departures watch the light climb the Grigne mountains behind Varenna. Como works beautifully in spring and autumn when the sun sets further south down the first basin. Tell us where you are staying — there is a right pier for every date of the season, and picking it is exactly the kind of thing we are for.

When to book

Sunset slots are the scarcest inventory on the lake: each boat sells exactly one per day. In July and August (sunset around 20:45–21:00) the prime Friday and Saturday evenings go 2–4 weeks out; September's earlier, softer sunsets (around 19:30) are easier and arguably more beautiful. If it looks like rain, operators reschedule free of charge — a sunset tour in a storm is nobody's idea of romance, and nobody on the lake will pretend otherwise.

Send us your date, your group and your hotel — we will tell you which pier gives you the best light that week and confirm the boat, usually within the hour.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the sunset tour actually start?

It moves with the sun: roughly 90 minutes before sunset on your date — around 19:30 in midsummer, 18:00 in September, earlier still in April and October. We confirm the exact departure time when you book.

Is the prosecco really included?

Yes — a chilled bottle per couple is standard on every sunset tour, with aperitivo snacks. Upgrades (Franciacorta, champagne, a full aperitivo board) are available on request for a supplement.

Can we swim during a sunset tour?

On the 2- and 3-hour options in June–September, yes — an early-evening swim in calm, warm water before the light fades is one of the great Lake Como experiences. Bring towels.

What if the weather is cloudy?

Cloud often makes the sunset better. If the forecast is genuinely poor, the operator reschedules free of charge or refunds — the decision is usually made together on the morning of the tour.
