Guided Fishing Trip on Lake Como

Lake Como has been fished for two thousand years — the missoltino, sun-dried agone shad, is older than the villas. A guided fishing trip puts you on that water at dawn with someone whose family has read these depths for generations, while the rest of the lake is still asleep.

What the trip is

A private half-day or full day on a fishing boat with a licensed local guide. Depending on season and target, you will spin or jig for perch (the lake's delicious workhorse, and the reason “perch risotto” is on every menu), cast the drop-offs for pike that grow to serious sizes in the northern basin, troll for lake trout and Arctic char in the deep cold water, or chase the summer surface action for agone and whitefish. The guide provides the boat, the rods, the electronics to find the fish, and — critically — handles the permits, which are genuinely complicated for a visitor to arrange alone. Beginners get patient instruction; experienced anglers get taken straight to the spots.

Prices are per boat (usually up to 2–3 anglers). Non-fishing partners are welcome aboard on most trips for a small supplement — the sunrise is included free.

When and where

Fishing runs longer than the tourist season: March to November, with the best action at the edges. Spring (April–June) brings perch spawning and aggressive pike in the shallows; summer means dawn and evening trips to beat the heat and the boat traffic, with surface action for agone; autumn is trophy pike and lake trout time as the water cools. Departure points span the lake: Como and Cernobbio for the southern basin, Bellagio and Lecco for the central-eastern water, and Dongo–Gravedona in the wilder north for the big pike. Your guide chooses the launch based on conditions — which is exactly what you are paying for.
